01 · The symptom

Is your current Odoo system holding you back?

Many businesses stay on outdated Odoo versions because they are worried about downtime or data loss. Common challenges include:

Unsupported Odoo versions

No security patches, no official fixes.

Security vulnerabilities

Known holes, publicly documented.

Slow performance

Years of data on an engine two generations old.

Incompatible custom modules

The reason the upgrade keeps being postponed.

Manual workarounds

Process built around what the old version cannot do.

Missing new features

Paying for staff time to do what Odoo now ships.

Difficulty integrating modern tools

Modern APIs that will not talk to an old release.

Rising maintenance overhead

Every fix costs more on a version nobody else runs.

if the system is limiting growth, migration is an investment, not a cost

and if it can safely wait a cycle, we will say so

02 · What it is

What is Odoo migration, and what does it involve?

Odoo migration is moving your ERP to a newer version, or bringing business data from another platform into Odoo. It may include database migration, custom module migration, data cleansing, reconfiguration, testing, user training and go-live support. The objective is to preserve critical data while improving performance and functionality. What decides the timeline is rarely the database — it is the custom code. A clean, lightly customized system can move in weeks. A system carrying years of custom addons, particularly ones that patched core rather than inheriting from it, takes considerably longer because each has to be refactored and retested against the new framework. That is why we assess the customizations before quoting anything, rather than after.

These are the ten parts of a migration. Tap one to see what it involves.

03 · What we deliver

What do our Odoo migration services cover?

Seven: version upgrades, Community to Enterprise migration, legacy ERP to Odoo migration, custom module migration, data cleansing and validation, testing and quality assurance, and go-live support. Coming off Tally, SAP Business One or a spreadsheet-based operation is a different job from a version upgrade — the data has to be restructured into Odoo’s models rather than copied in its existing shape, and that restructuring is where the value is. Every route runs the same way underneath: rehearsed on a copy, validated with your team, and cut over in a planned window with a documented rollback. The rollback is the part you pay for and hope never to use.

04 · What moves

What data can we migrate into Odoo?

Nine categories: customers and contacts, vendors and suppliers, products and categories, inventory balances, sales and purchase orders, accounting data, employees, CRM records and historical transactions. The more useful question is what you should migrate, which is not the same thing. Master data and open transactions come across as a matter of course. Years of dead records, duplicate contacts and products discontinued in 2019 usually should not, and a migration is the one honest opportunity to leave them behind. We run validation before load and show you exactly what failed and why, so that is a decision you make deliberately rather than one that happens by default.

05 · Our process

How does an Odoo migration run, and how much downtime is there?

Seven stages, and the cut-over window is usually a weekend or an overnight period planned around your trading pattern. That is possible because the live run is a repeat of something already rehearsed on a copy, not an experiment. Assessment reviews your current system, data volume and every customization on it. Strategy defines scope, timeline and risk, including what will deliberately not be brought across. Extraction and cleansing prepares the data and reports what failed validation. Custom module upgrade adapts the code. Testing verifies processes with your team on real records. Go-live executes in the planned window with a rollback ready. Then support through stabilization, when questions come fastest.

06 · Why KoderXpert

Why choose KoderXpert for Odoo migration?

Risk-minimized approach

A structured process that reduces downtime and protects data, with a rollback defined before cut-over rather than during it.

Functional plus technical expertise

We understand both the business workflows and the technical migration, so a broken report is recognised as broken.

Custom module expertise

We upgrade customizations and integrations, which is the work that stalls most migrations attempted in-house.

Thorough testing

We validate the system before launch, on your real data, with your team signing off their own processes.

Ongoing support

We remain available after migration, through the fortnight when questions arrive fastest.

We will say if it can wait

If your version is still supported and the business case is thin, postponing a cycle is legitimate advice.

07 · The payoff

What are the benefits of migrating to the latest Odoo version?

Beyond the obvious security and support argument, a current version changes what is possible.

  • Access to new features
  • Improved performance
  • Enhanced security
  • Better user experience
  • Greater integration compatibility
  • Reduced maintenance overhead
  • History preserved and still reportable
  • A supported version you can safely stay on

09 · Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Answered here, so the first call can start somewhere more useful.

Yes. We update custom modules for compatibility with newer versions.

We follow rigorous backup, validation, and testing procedures to protect your data.

Timelines depend on data volume, customizations, and integrations.

Absolutely.

Yes. We provide ongoing technical and functional support.

Custom code, almost always. A clean, lightly customized database can move in weeks. A system with years of custom addons that patched core rather than inheriting from it takes considerably longer, because each one has to be refactored and retested. We assess that first and tell you before quoting.

The cut-over window is usually a weekend or an overnight period, planned around your trading pattern. The migration itself is rehearsed on a copy first, so the live run is a repeat of something we have already done rather than an experiment.

Usually a mix, and it is worth deciding deliberately. Master data and open transactions come across; years of dead records and duplicate contacts often should not. A migration is the one honest opportunity to leave that behind, and we will show you what failed validation so you can choose.
